Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo has inaugurated the county’s second Internal Audit Committee to strengthen transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.
The five-member committee, inaugurated in the presence of Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo, succeeds the first committee, whose term ran from April 2023 to April 2025.
Speaking during the event, Ottichilo commended the outgoing committee for its work and expressed confidence that the incoming team would build on the gains made.
He reaffirmed the county government’s commitment to supporting the committee in discharging its mandate, noting that existing systems were in place to promote accountability and responsible use of public funds.
“Vihiga County is among three counties nationally that have qualified for donor grants, and I attribute this to the county’s commitment to transparency and accountability,” said Ottichilo.
The committee is expected to work with county departments to strengthen internal controls, address audit concerns and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
Its mandate is aimed at enhancing oversight of public funds and improving financial management across county departments.
