Leaders and residents of Vihiga county have celebrated the Tiriki initiation pass-out ceremony, a significant cultural event marking the transition of young men into adulthood.
The graduation ceremonies, held across various parts of the county, underscored the importance of preserving traditions while fostering social cohesion and economic growth.
The County Executive for Gender, Culture, Sports, and Social Services, Dr Ruth Agesa, lauded the role of the Tiriki initiation ceremonies in strengthening cultural heritage and boosting local commerce, including the film industry.
“These ceremonies serve as a testament to our rich heritage and are vital for fostering unity within our community,” she said, reaffirming the county government’s commitment to supporting cultural initiatives.
Hamisi MP Charles Gimose assured residents of continued support for cultural practices across the region, saying culture plays a central role in shaping community identity.
“Our culture is what binds us together and it is crucial that we nurture and promote it for future generations,” he stated.
Emuhaya MP Omboko Miremba urged the initiates to remain disciplined and to take pride in their heritage.
“As you embark on this new chapter in your lives, keep our culture close to your hearts,” he advised.
Governor Dr Wilber Otichillo and Senator Godfrey Osotsi also sent messages of goodwill, congratulating the initiates and applauding the resilience of Tiriki traditions.
The colourful event attracted a large audience, including members of the County Assembly, who reiterated their commitment to cultural preservation and community development.
