Vihiga politicians  urged to focus on development as 2027 elections approach

Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Khasilwa Ottichillo has urged leaders across the county to remain focused on development and avoid early political distractions as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.

Speaking on Friday during the Jamhuri Day celebrations at Moi Girls Vokoli in Sabatia Sub-County, the governor said Vihiga has made significant progress in various sectors, but more still needs to be done. He emphasised the importance of prioritising development, especially in areas affecting young people.

“We have been able to focus, and because of that, we have progressed. But challenges remain, particularly in education. Our youth are educated, they are learned everywhere, but the challenge is employment. So let’s concentrate on how we can move forward as a county,” he said.

The newly posted County Commissioner Peter Maina Mwangi assured residents of his commitment to serving them diligently. He called for peace and security during the festive season, urging communities to work closely with security agencies to maintain stability.

Deputy Governor Wilberforce Kitiezo echoed the governor’s sentiments, highlighting the county’s development agenda. He noted ongoing plans to transition from reliance on Kenya Power to solar energy, a move aimed at reducing operational costs and promoting sustainable energy use within the county.

The leaders collectively called for unity, development-centred leadership, and continued collaboration to ensure Vihiga remains on a steady growth path.
