Vihiga residents and national government employees have benefitted from a free medical camp organized by Mungoma Hospital at the County Commissioner’s Compound headquarters in Mbale.
The public health initiative, conducted in collaboration with the national government, sought to promote wellness among public servants while extending essential health services to the wider community.
According to Mr Felix Riema, a nursing officer at Mungoma Hospital, the medical camp was designed to encourage early screening and diagnosis of common health conditions, particularly lifestyle-related diseases that often go unnoticed among working adults.
“The well-being of government staff is key to effective service delivery. We also wanted to reach members of the public who might not always have access to such medical services,” said Riema.
The camp offered a range of services, including general health check-ups, blood pressure screening, and counselling sessions. National government officials had earlier been notified through a letter by the County Commissioner Florence Sitawa to carry their documents for Social Health Authority (SHA) updates as part of the exercise.
Health officials lauded the collaboration, describing it as a proactive effort that complements ongoing initiatives to strengthen preventive healthcare in the region.
The event recorded an impressive turnout from both government employees and local residents, many of whom expressed gratitude for the free services offered.
“Such camps help us monitor our health and get medical advice we might otherwise not afford,” said Kevin Karani, a resident.
Mungoma Hospital indicated that similar outreach programmes will continue to be organised as part of its broader community health agenda, aimed at improving access to healthcare services across the county.
