Migori Members of County Assembly (MCAs) have made it clear that they have not received any motion to impeach the area Deputy Governor (DG), Dr Joseph Mahiri.
Speaking to the press, the MCAs said that the house has not tabled any motion to impeach the Deputy Governor but affirmed that once the motion is tabled, they will consider debating it.Kacheng Ward MCA Brian Osodo said that every MCA has a right to table any motion in the Assembly, and it was the work of the MCAs to scrutinise and debate any motion brought on the Floor of the House.
Kaler ward MCA Thomas Akungo also echoed the sentiments, saying that once the motion is tabled, they will assess its merits and debate it objectively.
In October this year, Tagare Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA), Moses Magwa, the proposer of the agenda to impeach the DG, said that the impeachment motion remains on course, supported by sufficient signatures from fellow MCAs.
Magwa claims that he is currently compiling additional documents, including pending records from the Deputy Governor’s office, to table before the County Assembly.
Magwa cited corruption, embezzlement, and failure to represent the Kuria community’s interests as the core grounds for the motion to impeach the Deputy Governor.
He said that according to the Auditor General’s reports from 2022 to 2025, funds allocated for peace initiatives in Migori County cannot be accounted for, with no evidence of their utilisation.
The MCA further claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) identified the Deputy Governor’s office as the most corrupt in the county.
