We will from now focus on development, says Leader of Majority

The Leader of Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wa, has declared that leaders supporting the government will henceforth concentrate on development issues instead of engaging in political competition with the opposition.

Ichungwa said leaders on the government side will most of the time tell the people about development achievements of the Kenya Kwanza administration.

“From now on you will not hear us talking about people like our opponents do, but we will spend our time talking about developments that are taking place in various parts of the country,” said Ichungwa.

The Leader of Majority was speaking at Ol Jabet town in Marmanet sub-county, Laikipia County, on Tuesday during an empowerment fundraiser organized by the area Woman Representative Jane Kagiri for several self-help groups in Laikipia West.

Kagiri pointed out the Members of Parliament had rough time last year “since we had to make a decision whether to remain on the government side and continue attracting its support for development in our areas or ship out and miss development.”

The women’s rep said her decision to continue supporting the government was because Laikipia needs support in eradicating human-wildlife conflict, have roads constructed, having electricity connections increased and having water be made available to residents.

“Last year I could not have gone where there is no money. I will remain in government until human-wildlife conflict is eradicated, roads upgraded, electricity networks increased, and water made available to people of Laikipia,” said Kagiri, revealing her intention to be future chair of the parliamentary budget committee after becoming a member during recent changes in the committee’s composition.

Nominated MP Sabina Chege encouraged parents to always advise their children in the right way, saying it was disrespectful for somebody to throw a shoe at the president in Migori, saying the head of state is the symbol of unity and needs to be respected by all.

Chege urged Laikipia people to shun bad politics being propagated by “some people,” while her counterpart Kiambu Woman Rep. Ann Wamuratha, said MPs who are supporting the government are working hard to undo lies spread by those opposing it.

“We made a mistake last year by allowing opposition to spread falsehoods, which culminated in the invasion of parliament. We want to undo the lies about SHA and university funding. We want you to join SHA and take children to university and ask questions later,” Wamuratha said.

Ichung’wa donated Sh1 million and brought another Sh3 million from President Ruto while MPs Wachira Karani (Laikipia West), Sabina, Wamuratha and Kagiri gave Sh200,000 each.
