Women and youths urged to utilize government’s empowerment opportunities

Women and youth in Nyamira County have been challenged to form and register groups to benefit from government funding.

Nyamira County Women Representative Jerusha Momanyi said women and youths had very many avenues through which they could sustain their lives and those of their families by making use of government’s funding initiatives aimed at supporting their enterprises.

The Woman Rep made the remarks on Monday while issuing cheques to registered bodaboda riders in Kitutu Masaba constituency.

“You should not be complaining about joblessness all the time because there can’t be enough office job opportunities for everyone. As young people and women who have dependents, you must be sufficiently innovative to create wealth through government’s financial support and be economically stable to sustain your myriad needs,” Ms Momanyi challenged.

“The Government has initiated revolving financial kitties like youth and women funds, and the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA). These and many more economic empowerment funds remain untapped by our women and youths to jumpstart their investments and create their own wealth,” the legislator elaborated.

She therefore challenged youths and women to form and register groups in order be eligible for government funding.

“Idleness has left many families grapple with Sexual and Gender based Violence (SGBV) due to unmet financial needs, plunged youths into unacceptable quick fix money making activities like gambling yet they can form groups, register them and ask for money from government to do business and be engaged meaningfully thus sustaining their livelihoods,” she noted.

She congratulated local bodaboda riders for forming and registering groups saying they had already started reaping from their teamwork.

“I am presenting cheques of Sh147,000 to each registered bodaboda group in my County which put their requests of financial support in good time.
