Women rep advises youth against betting

Elgeyo Marakwet women representative Carolyne Ngelechei has called on the youth to learn how to invest for their future and stop waiting to get rich through betting.

Saying there was no shortcut to riches, the women’s rep regretted that youth, especially male were spending their money betting in the hope that they will get rich overnight after winning millions, which sadly does not happen.

Speaking in BIretwo Keiyo South Sub County when she launched the sinking of a borehole, Mrs. Ng’elechei called on the youth to think of the much money they spend betting and how many of them have gotten anything from the exercise.

“Just think of the money you spend on betting and ask yourself how much of the amount has been won by any of the youth in the county,” she said.

She called on them to use the money they spend in betting by investing in various projects including agriculture and be patient as they watch their investments grow.

The legislator also appealed to the National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) to redouble their efforts in enforcing laws on alcohol. She especially noted the law on opening time for bars saying some of the licensed bars were flouting this law by operating from morning to evening.

The women rep thanked the North Rift Water Works Development Agency for sinking a borehole in the area which she said will assist the traders in the busy centre who are forced to buy water for use.

“We have so many women who sell fruits who are forced to use part of their earnings to buy water to wash the fruits thus eating into their profits,” she said.

She added that the availability of water will improve the sanitation thus improving the health of the residents and passengers who stop to eat as they proceed on their journey.
