Women urged to embrace technology and save smartly

Women from Vihiga County have been urged to embrace technology and save smartly in a bid to leave behind a legacy.

Speaking to a section of the Smart Mums SACCO leadership at Gambogi today, Kisumu Jesus Celebration Centre, Bishop Mark Kegohi called on women to be proactive and embrace technology since times are changing.

Bishop Kegohi called on women to become critical thinkers, conduct researches on the available government opportunities and tap into the digital platform for them to be empowered economically.

“Gone are the days when women used to depend on men for survival; take advantage of the government opportunities and use them well for you to go far,” said Bishop Mark.

Bishop Kegohi urged women to come up with a robust system, and their wisdom should be based on benefitting the community and not just selfish ambitions that benefit individuals.

The bishop challenged them to take advantage of the various government funds that support women, like the Uwezo Fund, the Women Enterprise Fund, grants from NGAAF, government tenders where 30 percent is reserved for women, and even the Youth Enterprise Fund for the women who are still youths.

He added that if these funds and opportunities are utilized for the intended purposes, they will assist the women to be economically empowered so that they can start income-generating activities from which they can get proceeds to save smartly in the SACCOs.

He challenged all women to unite irrespective of their religious background, saying economic empowerment does not respect any religion.

Bishop Kegohi said that if the women remain united, they can take advantage of online markets and training opportunities, conduct research online, and benefit from the digital era.

The bishop also challenged them to take advantage of the evolving times and come up with ways through which they can accommodate the Gen Zs who are techno-savvy.

He advised them to look for long term projects and investments which will benefit their grandchildren and great-grandchildren long after they are gone.
