Women urged to make good use of government funds

Women from all walks of life have been urged to take advantage of the various government funding intended to empower them and improve their socio-economic status in the society.

Speaking today while in meeting with the pastors’ wives, female pastors and women leaders of Jesus Celebration Centre (JCC) at a hotel in Gambogi, Bishop Mark Kegohi said gone are the days when women shied away from leadership and government funding.

Bishop Kegohi noted that for women to benefit from the government funds, they need to come up with vibrant income generating projects in potential sectors of the economy such as agriculture, aquaculture or establish profitable businesses which will ensure they have reliable financial streams to sustain their families and contribute to the society.

He said Christian women should not just excel raising families and in preaching or serving God they should also be economically empowered by taking advantage of government funds like Women Enterprise Fund, Youth Enterprise Development Fund and UWEZO fund through which they can get capital to start businesses or money to expand existing businesses.

He added that there are many funding opportunities in both national and county governments where women can benefit and improve their living standards.

He called on the widows in the church to form groups and register with the Department of Social Services so that they can access government funds too.

He commended the women for registering Smart Mums SACCO two years ago where they can also get loans which will empower them economically so that they can have their own money and get financial freedom instead of constantly relying on men for financial support.

The bishop said he is in the process of launching Smart Mums Economic Empowerment forum which will work hand in hand with the SACCO to ensure the economic standards of women are raised.
