Youths from Vihiga Sub County have been urged to use the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) project funds for their intended purpose to improve their livelihoods.
Speaking during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations at Magui Secondary School in Vihiga Sub County, the Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Linet Orina called on youths to invest NYOTA project funds wisely to improve their living standards.
Orina cautioned youths against spending the NYOTA project funds on luxuries, saying these funds are meant to improve the economic standards of the youths and also create self-employment among them.
“You can engage in small businesses like salons, welding, barbering, agriculture, grocery, and even poultry keeping which in the end can also create employment for other youths once the business expands,” said Orina.
She cautioned youths against engaging in vices during this festive season asking them to engage in business, sports and church activities that will keep them busy.
She warned them against loitering on the streets aimlessly especially at night saying they were risking their safety and security and if found they would be arrested.
Orina advised those who use public WIFI outside Vihiga County headquarters to ensure they go home early in order to reduce instances of insecurity.
She called on parents of the grade nine candidates who have just received their KJSEA results to go and pick up Elimu scholarship forms from the education office so that their children can benefit.
She also called on residents to embrace SHA and register in large numbers so that they can benefit from it in times of need.
One youth, Mwalimu Rex called on fellow youths to embrace technology and be innovative so that they can help solve the challenge of youth unemployment instead of depending on the traditional ways of looking for employment.
He urged youths to take advantage of the government funding and use the money well for intended purposes to improve their living standards.
