36th Edition of Rhino Charge to Foster Peace Building

This year’s edition of the Rhino Charge, being held in Baringo, seeks to foster peace-building efforts.

This is the message from the organisers who assured that preparation for the 2025 Rhino Charge is complete and everything is set for an epic extreme sport event in the heart of Baringo.

Speaking during a virtual press briefing, the management of the Rhino Ark Foundation revealed that they have settled on the remote Saimo-Soi area in Baringo North Sub-County.

“The breathtaking area will bring global attention to one of Kenya’s most ecologically diverse regions,” said the statement.

The statement adds that the official route notes were issued on Tuesday to registered competitors, sponsors, and spectators, paving the way for the three-day event that starts on the 30th with screening of participating vehicles and culminates with prize awards on the 1st of June.

The organisers further add that the location offers a dramatic and demanding terrain ideal for the high-octane, precision navigation challenge that defines Rhino Charge.

The choice of the venue is largely determined by community willingness to host the event, suitable terrain, and other facilities such as water and security, among others.

The motorsport event makes a second tour of Baringo, having previously been staged in 2022 in the Sabor area of Baringo South.

The event is organized by the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, whose vision is to restore and maintain harmony between humans, habitat, and wildlife in Kenya.

They mainly engage in developing and implementing high-impact forest, water catchment, and endangered wildlife conservation initiatives that tangibly support communities adjacent to the conservancies.

The rhino charge event raises a substantial amount, with last year’s edition having raised Ksh325 million.

The chunk of the money raised, which is supplemented by private and public donors, goes to conservation of major forests, with Mount Kenya, Kakamega, and South Western Mau forests consuming the lion’s share.

With Baringo having been declared a UNESCO geopark status in 2022, the participants and spectators are expected to enjoy various geological features like lakes, rivers, hills, waterfalls, and caves.
