Governor Barasa mourns late Education Chief Officer, Amwoga

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa on Wednesday led the county staff in paying tributes to the Late Chief Officer for Education Doreen Amwoga.

Amwoga died on Monday while undergoing surgery at a hospital in Eldoret.

During a memorial service held at the Kakamega County Funeral Parlour Governor Barasa praised the late Amwoga’s dedication to public service.

“Doreen was hardworking. She delivered every assignment without question,” he said.

The governor urged county staff to emulate her discipline, professionalism and proactive approach to work.

He commended Amwoga’s role in improving education programs in the county while serving as the Chief officer for education.

“She played a major role in advancing the education sector in this county,” he said.

Barasa added, “Though we are crushed, we are not destroyed. Let us continue praying for her family.”

At the time of her death, she served as Chief Officer for Education and Acting Chief Officer for Public Administration.

According to county records, she began her service to the county in 2014 as a Ward Administrator in Shinyalu Constituency.

In 2020, she was promoted to Sub-County Administrator and later to executive roles.

Leaders from Isukha North, her home area, also delivered tributes, describing her as a respected role model.

The Member of County Assembly(MCA) for Isukha West Ward Samuel Mullavu Segero, described the late Amwoga as a role model in the community and who knew how to interact with various types of people.

“She was very close to every leader including our governor,” Segero noted.

He said that Amwoga was a committed woman whose legacy would remain in the society forever.

Governor Barasa assured the family of county support during the funeral preparations.
