Leaders and residents of Kilgoris Sub-County have continued to pour in their messages of condolences to the family of the late former area Member of Parliament, Gideon Konchellah, who passed on at the Nairobi Hospital.
Speaking during a media briefing in Kilgoris to convey his message of condolence to the bereaved family and the constituents, the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, John Ololtuaa, said that they were deeply saddened by the loss of a patriarch, who dedicated his entire life to serving the people of Kilgoris and the nation at large.
He urged the local residents, Narok County, and the entire country to remain calm and be strong in the Lord during this very difficult period of mourning and grief.
“On my own behalf and on behalf of my family, I would like to convey my very sincere condolences to the family and the entire nation for losing this patriarch who has been able to lead our country for a long time,” Ololtuaa said.
He disclosed that President William Ruto called the family on Friday morning to convey his personal condolences following the death of the former legislator.
Narok County Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu and area Women Representative Rebecca Tonkei also sent their heartfelt messages of condolence to the bereaved family during this very painful period.
Konchellah died at the Nairobi Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest on Friday morning at age 74 years.
The PS further confirmed that the veteran politician passed on at 4:00 am after battling a prolonged illness since November 2025.
He said Konchellah was admitted to Nairobi Hospital on May 30, 2026, after developing an infection that worsened his already deteriorating health condition that ultimately led to the fatal cardiac arrest that claimed his life.
Konchellah served asa memberr of Parliament for Kilgoris Constituency for three terms between 2003 and 2019 making him one of the longest-serving legislators from the region.
He also served as Minister of Immigration and Registration of Persons between 2006 and 2007 under the government of the late President Mwai Kibaki.
Before venturing into politics, Konchellah served in the Kenya Armed Forces as a military officer and commander at the Kenya Army Ordnance Corps in Kahawa from 1979 to 2002.
He attended Kilgoris Primary School, Narok High School, and Nairobi School before pursuing advanced military training at the Military Training College in Lanet and in Camberley in the United Kingdom.
Konchellah’s body has been preserved at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi as the family makes burial arrangements.
Ololtuaa urged all Kenyans to pray for the bereaved family and to always remember the former legislator for his long and distinguished record of dedicated service to the nation.
