Political leaders in Gusii region have sent messages of condolences to the Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka following the demise of his mother, Mama Teresia Nyaboke Omoke.

Mama Teresia passed on Wednesday at the age of 81 while receiving treatment at the Aga Khan University Hospital in Nairobi.

Kisii Governor, Simba Arati, conveyed his sympathy to Senator Onyonka and his family, describing the late as a true pillar of the community whose unwavering devotion to family and service inspired and uplifted countless lives across Kisii.

“She personified the timeless values of unity, compassion, and resilience that define our people,” added Arati.

Jubilee Deputy Party Leader and former Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’I, described the demise as a profound loss to the Onyonka family, being that he had visited Mama Teresia at the hospital and hoped she would recover from her illness.

“I remain especially fond of her warmth, love, and hospitality, particularly during a relaxed evening she graciously hosted Richard and I at her home in December,” recalled Dr. Matiang’i.

Similarly, Nyaribari Masaba Member of Parliament Dr. Daniel Manduku said Mama Teresia was a pillar of strength whose love, wisdom and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.

His counterpart from Kitutu Chache South, Antony Kibagendi noted the late Senator’s mother will be remembered as a firm disciplinarian who held a deep appreciation for education.

“She served with dedication as a leader in the Catholic Women’s Guild and was an active and valued member of the Nyabururu community and the Kisii Diocese. Her legacy of service, faith, and commitment to community will endure,” added Kibagendi.

West Mugirango MP Steve Mogaka said that Mama Teresia was a remarkable woman whose life was defined by strength, dignity, and unwavering commitment to her family and community.

“Losing a mother is an immeasurable loss. It is my prayer that God grants Hon. Onyonka and the family comfort, strength, and peace as they mourn and celebrate a life well lived,” Mogaka noted.

In his heartfelt statement to newsrooms, Senator Onyonka described his mother as a pillar of strength to the family who lived a full life grounded in service, compassion and unwavering dedication to the family and community.
