Kabulwo FC from Kerio Valley are the winners of this year’s Emsoo ward football tournament after scoring 3 goals to beat Kapchelal FC through a penalty shootout in the finals.
Chegilet FC took third position after scoring 2:0 against their opponents Kokwao FC in the tournament which took place at Chegilet Primary School.
In the women category, Kaptum FC emerged victorious after scoring 1:0 against Chegilet women FC while Salaba FC and Kabulwo FC secured third and fourth position respectively.
In volleyball, Kibendo volley ball team thrashed Kabulwo 3 sets against 1 to emerge winners.
Kabulwo FC won themselves Sh80,000, Kapchelal got Sh60,000 while Chegilet and Kokwao went home with Sh40,000 and Sh25,000 respectively.
The winning women’s football team Kaptum was awarded with Sh65,000, Chegilet Sh48,000, while Salaba and Kabulwo each got Sh14,000.
The MCA Christopher Cheboiboch said he will continue supporting the youth and at the same time contacting major clubs to persuade them to recruit talented youth from the ward to serve as role models to others.
He also pledged to look for sponsors to ensure the teams are kitted, including shoes for playing. He called on the youth to shun vices like drugs, substance abuse and gambling which he said were destroying their lives.
Yusuf Kipchumba, the Kabulwo FC team manager called on the government to support sports at the grassroots by improving the sports grounds and asked the governor to consider including volleyball in his ‘gavana wa raia’ tournament.
