The County Government of Vihiga has endorsed the ‘Walk for Light – Solar Walkathon 2026’, an initiative aimed at promoting the use of solar lanterns and discouraging reliance on paraffin lighting, due to its health and environmental risks.
Governor Dr. Wilber Khasilwa Ottichilo, speaking at the County Headquarters, met with officials from Westlight Solar CBO, including Mr. Francis Olocho Sande and Mr. Kennedy Miheso, who are spearheading the walkathon.
The Governor urged residents to participate in the 10-kilometre walk scheduled for May 23, 2026, from Mahanga to Musunguti in Emuhaya Constituency.
He noted that the organization has already made strides in supporting schools and communities through the donation of solar lanterns, enhancing access to clean and safe lighting.
Ottichilo called on residents to turn up in large numbers, emphasizing the importance of collective action in achieving a healthier and sustainable future.
