Students in special learning institutions in Bondo constituency have for the first time benefited from bursaries courtesy of Bondo NG-CDF.
In the latest disbursement, the special institutions which have always missed out on the bursary support list got over Sh1.7 million to support the education of hundreds of special needs learners.
Fr.Ouderaa Special Secondary School for the Hearing Impaired received Sh850,000, Niko Hauser Special School for the Visually Impaired got Sh450,000 while Maranda Special School received Sh500,000.
Speaking when he presided over the Bondo NG- CDF bursary issuance at Goma Primary School, area MP Dr. Gideon Ochanda disclosed that the special schools have always failed to benefit owing to laxity of the school administrators and parents in doing applications.
“As NG-CDF, we resolved to visit the special schools to find out why they were not taking part in applications for the bursary support. We were shocked to discover the dire challenges in fee payments by the special learners hence we purposed to give them substantial support to enable them stay in school,” Ochanda stated.
The MP observed that most of the parents dump their special needs students in schools and do no bother to apply for bursaries to support their education.
Because of the discovery, the MP has now vowed to ensure the special institutions in the constituency get constant support from the kitty.
In the overall disbursement to Bondo schools which benefits over 19, 000 learners, the NG-CDF gave out bursary cheques worth Sh32 million to Secondary schools where Sh23 million was allocated to day secondary schools while boarding secondary schools got Sh9 million.
