The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock development has donated 40,000 lemon seedlings to farmers in Makueni County in an effort to boost citrus farming with a view to improve the livelihoods of local residents.
The assorted seedlings will be distributed to 10 sub counties in the region including Makueni, Kathozweni, Kilungu, Mbooni East and Mbooni West, Kambu, Mukaa, Nzaui, Makindu and Kibwezi, where they will get 4,000 each.
The initiative is expected to support farmers in diversifying crops and also enhance food security and income generation through commercial citrus farming,” said Makueni County Procurement Officer Josphat Musila, while distributing the seedlings on Tuesday at the County Commissioner’s office.
The seedlings were brought by the Ozone freight Forwarders, who were awarded the supply contract to by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development in a framework agreement covering 2025/2026 and 2026/2027 financial years.
