A minimum of 3,846 new voters is targeted for registration in Kajiado North Sub-county during the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Speaking to KNA, the Sub-County Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Registration Officer (RO), Benard Musee, said that as of now, the recorded number of new voters is only 826.
He added that their target audience is every unregistered citizen who has qualified to be a voter, and although the process is slow, 99.9 per cent of those who are registering are youth.
Musee said that there are 35 registering centers in Kajiado North alone, but the main IEBC office in Ngong is the one currently having the registration centre due to a lack of adequate resources to enable the exercise to be done in the other centers or to reach more people.
He urged citizens to register as voters, explaining that the requirements to become a registered voter are being a Kenyan citizen and having the original identity card or a valid passport and these will enable one to exercise their democratic right to vote.
“The registration exercise is ongoing during working days, Monday to Friday, between 8am and 5pm, and that all eligible citizens can make their way to their offices to do so
He confirmed and explained that the registration cannot facilitate the transfer of an individual from Kajiado North Constituency to another Constituency, but those registering from another County can move and register as voters in Kajiado North.
“We have an open kit that can register any Kenyan citizen to vote anywhere in Kenya; the only thing we cannot do is facilitate the transfer of an individual from our Constituency to another. If in need of that, visit the Constituency you want to vote from; that is where you will get help,” he added.
Musee assured the public that they have engaged the opinion leaders through social media and youth groups, partnered with the Interior Ministry, and various stakeholders to mobilise citizens and create awareness of the ongoing registering of voters.
He concluded by urging the unregistered yet qualified Kenyans to participate in order to make better choices in the future through exercising their democratic right.
The IEBC announced the continuous voter registration to start on September 29th of 2025 in line with the Constitutional mandate and as a vital step in ensuring that every eligible Kenyan above 18 years has the opportunity to participate in shaping the country’s future through democratic elections.
