A 37-year-old woman is nursing injuries after she was sexually assaulted in Kadongo trading center in Rachuonyo East, Sub County, Homa Bay County.
The assailant went into the widow’s house at Kogalo Village last night pretending he was just visiting.
The local Assistant Chief Jasbon Mikok said the man, who was known to the widow, took advantage of his familiarity with the widow to gain entry into her house.
But after an initial exchange of pleasantries, the man turned wild and ordered the widow to accompany him out to unknown destination. The man who was wielding a panga threatened to kill the widow if she raised alarm or refused to comply.
Mikok said the 25-year-old suspect reportedly blind folded the woman and dragged her to an incomplete building at Kadongo trading center where he further tied her mouth, arms and legs before raping her repeatedly.
Nahashon Oluoch, a trader at Kodongo Market, said the woman sustained injuries during the ordeal.
“He tied the widow like an animal and raped her. The woman suffered injuries in various parts of the body,” Oluoch said.
Upon committing the heinous act, the man abandoned the woman in the building and disappeared.
Mikok said the woman was later rescued by residents who took her to a local health facility for medication.
He said the woman later recorded statement at Othoro Police Station adding that they were liaising with police who are pursuing the suspect.
Local residents called on authorities to boost security in the area.
