Education CS Julius Ogamba has appointed Prof. Kennedy Otieno Awuor as a board member of the National Biosafety Authority (NBA) for a period of three years, effective August 15, 2025.
This appointment is as per section 6(1) (f) of the Biosafety Act, which provides that the Board shall consist of two experts in the biological, environmental and social sciences.
Notably, Awuor is an associate professor in the department of mathematics, school of pure and applied sciences and holds a PhD and a masters of sciences in applied mathematics from Kenyatta University.
He is also a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Education (science) from the same university.
Prof. Awour teaches mathematics to undergraduate and masters students, where his area of specialization is applied mathematics.
Likewise, his research interest is in the numerical simulation of fluid flow in an enclosure.
Last month, according to a press statement sent to news rooms, the 3 -year term of two directors Dr. Daniel Njoroge and Mohamed Haji Hussein came to an end after serving for one term.
At the same time, NBA Board of Directors Chairperson Prof. Jenesio Kinyamario, independent Board member Asteri Angolo and management, have led the Authority in 2025/2026 PC negotiations with the State Department for Agriculture and Livestock Development. The Ministry officials were led by James Wanjohi.
In the process, Prof. Kinyamario underscored the importance of the exercise insisting that the Authority had followed the 22nd cycle performance contracting guidelines issued by the Public Service Performance Management Unit (PSMU).
“More importantly, the Authority has identified targets that are aligned with the achievement of its Strategic Plan (2023-2027) for inclusion in this performance contract,” noted the chairperson.
He stated that the Board will achieve its strategic objectives as clearly captured in the eight Key Results Areas (KRAs) through the implementation of the performance contract.
“Upon the completion of this negotiation exercise and the subsequent vetting of the targets for FY 2025/26, the Board intends to cascade these targets to the management of the Authority all the way to the departmental level,” added Prof. Kinyamario.
