Members of cooperative societies in Vihiga County have been encouraged to register with SHA, in a bid to cut down on medical bills when they fall sick and more so when they are admitted in hospitals.
Speaking, today, during a Cooperative societies’ leaders’ training on risk management held at a Vihiga hotel, CIC Insurance group, Western Region Director, Michael Wambia asked beneficiaries of CIC insurance, to register with SHA.
Wambia urged all cooperative members to embrace the national medical scheme, saying it will come in handy by paying for the bed and other medical bills, while they foot the rest.
He called on leaders of cooperative societies to encourage their members to register with SHA, adding that it is one of the ways of averting risks, since members might fall sick when they do not have money, hence, they can benefit from the medical insurance.
He asked them to insure all the loans they will be giving to members, saying no one knows when death can strike as CIC will go a long way to assist the deceased’s family.
Vihiga County Commissioner for Cooperative societies, Francis Kisia, asked cooperative societies to ensure they file their cooperative societies’ returns by September 30, 2025, otherwise they risk being deregistered.
He encouraged all cooperative societies to adhere to cooperative societies laid down rules and regulations, for a smooth running.
One of the officials from Vihiga County Bodaboda SACCO commended CIC Insurance group for coming in handy recently, when they lost their chairman, who had insured his loan and paying them.
Vihiga County has over 197 registered cooperative societies and they are in the process of reviving coffee cooperative societies.
