Fear and frustration have gripped the boda boda community in Aroso area, Migori town, after allegations that security officers are muscling into their business and threatening livelihoods.
According to operators led by Saitoti Jabuya and Felix Joma, government-employed officers have set up a rival boda boda stage in the town, declaring it their own and undermining the operators who have served the community for over a decade.
“This stage has existed for years. How can officers suddenly claim it belongs to them?” posed Jabuya.
The riders say the intrusion has created an atmosphere of intimidation, with operators forced to operate under constant fear. Despite reporting the matter to local police, village elders, and even the county commander, the riders claim their concerns have been ignored.
“We have worked here peacefully for more than ten years. Now, our very livelihoods are at stake,” lamented Joma.
The community is appealing to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, expected in the county on Thursday, to intervene. “We will demand that the CS transfers these officers to restore peace in our area,” added Jabuya.
Attempts to reach senior county security officials for comment were unsuccessful.
