Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President, Hussein Mohammed, and his deputy, McDonald Mariga, are set to grace the Busia County Mini-League hosted by Teso North Sub-County, beginning today, Friday.
The three-day football extravaganza will be played across multiple venues, culminating in the finals on September 28 at Kamolo Primary School.
FKF Busia Branch Secretary General, Victor Ochakala, who released the fixtures, said Pool A will feature Lake View FC (Samia), Kamolo FC (Teso North), Amukura FC (Teso Central), and Rwatama. Pool B will bring together Boca Junior Malaba (Teso North), Boca Junior Bunyala (Bunyala Sub-County), Katakwa FC (Teso Sub-County), and Angorom FC (Teso South).
Action kicks off today with Rwatama facing Kamolo at Moding Primary School at 2pm, while Boca Junior Bunyala take on Angorom at Kokare Primary School at the same time.
On Saturday, Lake View will confront Rwatama at Kokare Primary at 9am, followed by Kamolo against Amukura at 12pm at the same venue. At Kocholia Secondary School grounds, Boca Junior Malaba will play Angorom at 9am, before Katakwa battle Boca Junior Bunyala at 12pm. Later, Kamolo will face Lake View at Kokare Primary at 3pm, while Rwatama take on Amukura at Kiriko Primary at the same hour. Boca Junior Bunyala will then clash with Boca Junior Malaba at Kocholia at 3pm, with Angorom facing Katakwa at Malaba Primary simultaneously.
The semi-finals will take place on Sunday morning. Pool A winners will meet Pool B runners-up at Kokare Primary starting 8:30am, while the Pool B winners will take on Pool A runners-up at Kiriko Primary at the same time. The third-place playoff, featuring the two losing semi-finalists, will be staged at Kamolo Primary at 11:30am. The grand finale will follow at 1pm at the same venue, pitting the two semi-final winners against each other.
Ochakala confirmed that the mini-league is sponsored by Teso North Member of Parliament aspirant for the 2027 elections, Humphrey Ekirapa. The winning team will pocket Ksh100,000, with runners-up receiving Ksh50,000, third place Ksh20,000, and fourth place Ksh10,000. All eight teams will also receive full sets of uniforms and balls.
FKF Busia Branch Chairman, Eugene Okello (alias Afobe 10), urged fans to attend in large numbers and support the emerging talent in Busia County. He noted that several players from the region, including Harambee Stars deputy captain Boniface Muchiri, as well as Austin Odongo and Osoro, have already showcased Busia’s potential on the national stage.
