Former Ugunja constituency development fund (CDF) manager, Moses Omondi, will fly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party flag during the November 27, 2025 by elections.
This is after he trounced two opponents during the party nomination exercise that ended Friday evening.
Declaring the results at the Savannah hotel tallying centre in Ugunja town, the returning officer, Felix Ngala announced that Omondi had garnered 5,329 votes, beating his closet rival, Joseph Otieno Alur who got 2,789 votes. The third candidate, Fredrick Z.B. Owino managed 1,336 votes.
Speaking after he was awarded the nomination certificate, Omondi thanked the voters for having faith in him.
Omondi appealed to his opponents not to ditch the party but support him to ensure that the party clinches the seat which fell vacant after the energy cabinet secretary, Opiyo Wandayi resigned to join the broad-based government.
Earlier, the nomination exercise went on smoothly, save for an incident where a former member of the Siaya county assembly, Engineer Eric Odawa and some supporters of Joseph Alur were injured during a confrontation with Omondi’s supporters at Nyasanda Technical Training Institute polling centre.
Odwa was forced to shoot in the air to defend himself from youths who descended on him as he protested alleged irregularities.
He suffered a cut on his head.
