Mbeere North Parliamentary seat hopeful on Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Duncan Mbui has called on voters to shun attempts to impose the so-called “preferred candidate” on them as the by-election battle intensifies.
Mbui, who is serving as Evurore Ward MCA, said the upcoming by-election presents an opportunity for residents to elect a leader based on merit and track record rather than party affiliations or external influence.
Speaking during a meeting with over 1,000 boda boda riders at Ishiara Market, Mbui said any attempts to impose a single candidate was an insult to people’s democratic right to elect their next MP freely.
He called on residents to ignore such maneuvers of narrowing the race to a single candidate, saying they should be given space to elect their leader without undue pressure or influence.
“This election should not be about who is chosen for you, but the one who has the best interest and development plan for the people of Mbeere North,” Mbui told the riders.
He said residents deserve more than party slogans and empty promises as he challenged his opponents to outline their agenda on how they intend to transform the constituency.
“Each candidate should sell their manifesto explaining what they will do for the people,” he said, adding that party politics will not bring the much needed projects including roads, water or job creation.
The aspirant expressed confidence of victory, saying the warm reception he has received across the constituency is proof that Mbeere North voters are hungry for authentic leadership that prioritizes their needs.
“My time as your MCA has given me the skills and knowledge needed to serve at a higher level,” he noted, adding that he was well versed with the challenges residents faced; from poor infrastructure to youth unemployment.
At the same time, Mbui sought to clear the air regarding speculation about his political alignment following allegations that he was a “government project.”
The allegations stem from rumors that the CCK party associated with former Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria enjoys Government backing.
“Those spreading the propaganda that I am on the government side are misleading you, Kuria himself is no longer in government,” he stated.
