A golf tournament held at the Kisii Golf Club, in Kisii County over the weekend has seen one Sharon Moraa emerge the overall winner beating other 60 participants.

Moraa emerged winner at the Changamka na Unicolor Golf tournament which was sponsored by United Paints.

Speaking during the event, United Paints, Managing Director, Stephen Mose, asserted that the event was meant to demystify golf and to bring game at the grassroots, adding that it was not just a game for the elite.

He explained that his organization had partnered with other stakeholders including Oviki Hardware in Nyamira county to sponsor this tournament among other series within the country.

He elaborated that anyone could pursue golf sport and urged the youth to take time off the internet and play the sport.

Through this he said, they could be able to interact and grow networks where they will be able to do business for the future.

He noted that this was the second series after the one performed in Ruiru area in Kiambu recently, while plans for more such tournaments are underway.

Endrian Monari, the captain Kisii golf club, said the event was well attended and applauded the amateur players as well as their enthusiastic supporters.

“There’s been a lot of focus for Nairobi clubs’ tournaments before but we are glad the ground is now shifting to upcountry clubs,” he said

He said that having at least 60 people participate from Kericho, Ruiru, Nandi, Kakamega and railway clubs among others was encouraging.

“Golf is being devolved out of Nairobi and that’s the way to grow the sport,” he observed.

Julius Omwenga of Oviki hardware applauded organizers and participants for the success of the event and urged other organisations to come up and sponsor such events saying it was vital for a healthy citizenry.
