A Narok Court has denied bond to a man accused of chopping-off the left arm of a police officer at Duka Moja area, Narok East Sub- County early this year.
Peter Memusi is accused of committing the crime on January 17, 2025, during a demonstration where residents had barricaded the Narok- Maai Mahiu highway, protesting over their livestock that had been knocked and killed by a speeding vehicle.
Memusi appeared before Narok Chief Magistrate, George Sagero, where he was charged with the offense.
According to the charge sheet, Memusi, alongside others not before the court, allegedly chopped-off the arm of Police Constable, Isaiah Kagiri who was deployed to help disperse the demonstrators.
He faced six charges including causing grievous harm to a police officer, assaulting a police officer while executing his duty, taking part in an unlawful assembly, participating in a riot and malicious damage to government property, specifically a government vehicle (registration GKB 273T).
He was also charged with engaging in a violent protest that led to serious injuries and property destruction.
The Magistrate reiterated the gravity of the charges and cited risk of interference with investigations and public interest concerns if the accused was set free at the moment.
He ordered the prosecution to provide the defense with formal objections to bond, and directed that a probation report be prepared on the suspect.
The matter will be mentioned again in court on October 14, 2025, when the probation report and bond objection will be reviewed.
