Bondo police launch search for lost gun

Police in Bondo sub county have launched search for a firearm, allegedly snatched from a police constable after burial of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

According to police report, the firearm, Jericho, loaded with 15 rounds of 9mm ammunition was snatched by rowdy youth from police constable Benson Kodia Olaye a GSU officer, currently attached to VIP protection of Kakamega Governor, Fernandes Barasa.

The report indicates that constable Olayo was in the company of four other officers Sunday, when they left the funeral ceremony at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University and at the main gate, while they were boarding the Governors vehicle, some rowdy youth, who were around the vehicle snatched the fire arm.

The report further indicates that efforts to recover the gun at the scene were fruitless because of a huge crowd of people.

Bondo DCIO Reuben Onchoka has appealed to members of the public to volunteer any vital information that could lead to the identity of culprits involved in the incident.
