Two legislators from Siaya are cautioning former prime minister, Raila Odinga supporters to be wary of politicians taking advantage of Raila’s death to tear apart his support base.
Gem member of Parliament, Elisha Odhiambo and his Ugenya counterpart, David Ochieng said that even known tribalists were now spewing propaganda aimed at ensuring that Raila’s support base stop backing the broad-based government that the former premier left them in.
They were speaking at St. Teresa Kawuondi catholic church in Rarieda constituency during a funds drive in aid of the church.
Mr Odhiambo accused some Orange Democratic Movement officials and a governor of peddling lies that Raila did not enter a memorandum of understanding with President William Ruto beyond 2027. “That is totally wrong. When Raila Odinga died, he left us in Broad based government and did not envisage Luos staying in the opposition,” said the MP.
He said that the community has, over the years, been left behind despite contributing a lot of taxes to the national coffers and it was therefore time to catch up with the rest of the country in terms of development. “We want a Kenya that is peaceful, where everybody loves each other,” he said.
Addressing the same occasion, Ugenya MP who is also the party leader for the movement for Democracy and Growth, David Ochieng urged Kenyans to be wary of tribal politics associating with a section of politicians led by former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
Ochieng called on Kenyans to ensure that Raila’s legacy is built based on democracy and observance of the rule of law. “Let us ensure that baba’s legacy is built based on democracy, rule of law, no tribalism, no corruption and respecting every tribe and everybody that lives within the borders of our country,” he said.
