Nyeri Governor Muthai Kahiga has pledged to continue improving existing health facilities to enable patients access quality medical care.
Commenting on his official face book page after touring the Nyeri County Referral Hospital, yesterday, the County Boss said provision of quality health services to the residents of Nyeri, remains at the core of his Administration’s Manifesto, therefore, no effort will be spared to attain such an objective.
The Governor, who took time to interact with both patients and staff, further pledged to continue equipping all medical facilities in the County with modern equipment, as a way of addressing emerging health complications.
“Today, I visited the Nyeri County Referral Hospital, where I spent time with patients and walked through the different Departments, to witness firsthand the incredible work being done by our healthcare teams. A key highlight of the visit was the Radiology Department, home to our State-of-the-Art 164-/ CT Scan machine,” he posted.
“I took time to see how this new equipment is transforming service delivery, providing clear, precise, and safe diagnostic imaging powered by AI technology. This innovation is helping our doctors make faster and more accurate diagnoses, leading to better treatment outcomes for our patients.”
Kahiga noted that for any community to thrive, provision of health care to the people is critical and no sacrifice should be spared to ensure the lives of people are saved.
He, therefore, called upon medics and staff working in all health care facilities, to be at the forefront in transforming health facilities into alternative abodes for the sick by handling them with compassion, care and utmost professionalism.
“In Nyeri County, our people’s health and wellbeing remain at the heart of everything we do. My Administration is fully committed to empowering the Department of Medical Services with the support and resources needed to deliver quality, compassionate care to every resident of Nyeri. Today’s visit was more than just a tour, it was a reminder of the lives we touch through dedicated service and the importance of continually improving our healthcare infrastructure,” added the governor who was accompanied by Medical Services Chief Officer, Aden Eden, Director Dr. Nelson Muriu, PGH Medical Superintendent, Dr. Benson Ngare, among other County officials.
During his State of the County address in December last year, Kahiga said his government would continue to embark on offering quality curative and promotive health care services to residents of the County.
The County boss noted that strengthening Primary Health Care, remains key in attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC), to each and every person irrespective of his or her socio-economic status, while cautioning that rehabilitative and palliative services are not the panacea in reducing disease burden currently plaguing many third world countries.
“The County invested in specialized services, such as renal dialysis, oncology, intensive Care Unit, High Dependence Unit, Diagnostic laboratory and Imaging services for high level of care treatment. Other remarkable success stories in the health services include; the outpatient attendance increase to 1,638,725 customers across all public health facilities, which is an indication of our citizens preference to seek health care services in our health facilities.
“And the most worth noting achievement, ensuring that all HIV patients were put on ARVs. The County also achieved a viral suppression of 96 per cent. This is an indication of the County’s commitment to treat and reduce HIV/Aids prevalence among County citizens.”
