Blogger charged in court over cybercrime offences

A Bondo based blogger who had been arrested for allegedly defaming a Siaya MCA has been charged with publishing false information contrary to computer and cybercrimes Act.

Boniface Ouma Ohindo also faced a second charge of cyber harassment contrary to computer misuse and cybercrimes Act.

The court heard that on November 2, 2025 at unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, while using his facebook account namely “Superb Sauti nikuu”on his phone, he wilfully and unlawfully published false information that Hon Francis Otieno Otiato had been embezzling ward development funds, fabricating saccos to divert youth and women funds, benefiting unlawfully from fish cages and other county initiatives, misappropriating funds meant for Lucy Onono training college and diverting money allocated to Usigu Mortuary.

The second count was that on Novermber 2, 2025 using the same phone and facebook account, Ohindo posted offensive and menacing communication directed at Mr Otiato with intent to cause annoyance, distress and fear.

Ohindo who was arraigned before Bondo Resident Magistrate, Christabel Maiyo, denied all the charges.

The court granted the accused a cashbail of Sh20,000 or a bond of Sh50,000 failure to which he be remanded at Siaya G.K maximum prison.

The case will be mentioned on the November 24, 2025.
