Two police officers were seriously injured after heavily armed bandits ambushed a security patrol team in Samburu County.
The officers sustained multiple bullet wounds when the unknown number of gunmen waylaid and sprayed the security team with bullets along the Baragoi – Barsaloi Maralal road.
The motive of the attack could not be established as nothing was reported stolen during the incident after the bandits reportedly fled into the thickets after the raid.
Samburu County Commissioner John Cheroiyot confirmed the incident but said security details were dispatched to track down the bandits who fled after the shooting incident although another team was combing through the scene to piece up any evidence linked to the attack.
He told KNA that the officers were shot without any provocation while on duty raising queries over the actual motive of the attackers adding that the injured duo were later airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
Cheroiyot however warned that the government will go at any length to flush out and crack down on all bandits operating in the troubled area saying their days were that their numbered unless they surrendered their illegally acquired weapons before the expiry of the arms amnesty grace period.
