Police in Bondo have launched investigations into killing of a driver to a businessman who sustained bullet wounds during the incident.
The Officers are piecing up evidence to ascertain the circumstances under which armed raiders ambushed and sprayed the businessman with bullets killing his driver on the spot before escaping along Bondo-Nango road.
Bondo sub county police commander Robert Aboki, who confirmed the incident, said the businessman, Calvin Obote, 35, and his driver Walter Odhiambo Akama aged 36, were returning to Bondo town from Nango center at around 8pm on Monday evening after visiting one of his premises when they were attacked and left for the dead.
According to Aboki, preliminary investigations revealed that Obote, who had opted to drive that evening, sustained serious injuries after he was hit by three bullets which had ripped through the driver’s door.
The police boss disclosed that during the incident, the driver Walter Odhiambo Akama who was riding on the passenger seat, was shot four times before he was pulled out of the vehicle and a knife used to cut open his stomach.
He said police visited the scene and recovered seven spent cartridges alongside the businessman’s stalled car registration KDS 214 Z.
The police boss revealed that the businessman managed to call for help from his wife using his phone after the assailants fled from the scene believing their victims were dead.
The police boss stated that nothing was stollen by the assailants during the incident hence ruled out robbery as the motive of the attack.
He said that the businessman, who owns a chain of butcheries and wholesale shops, was rushed to Siaya County Referral hospital where he is admitted in a stable condition after receiving treatment while the body of Akama has been removed to Bondo sub county mortuary.
