Shock and grief has engulfed Mbombo Village in Oljororok Constituency, Nyandarua County, following the alleged defilement and killing of a Grade Two pupil on Friday evening.
The deceased was walking home from Ol Joro Orok Primary School when she mysteriously went missing. Her disappearance prompted her parents, together with neighbours, to launch a search.
At around 8:00 p.m., the search team discovered her lifeless body under a eucalyptus tree, not far from the diversion leading to her home. The body was covered with her school jacket and showed signs of defilement.
The mother described her daughter as a jovial child who always reminded the family to hold a joint prayer session before retiring to bed. Overcome with grief, she said the young girl was loving, caring, and brought joy to everyone around her.
The father of the deceased said his daughter was exceptional and unique compared to his other children, noting that her loss had left an immeasurable void in the family.
“It was upon searching a nearby bush that we found her body, with blood oozing from her private parts,” said a neighbour, Beatrice Waweru.
Nyandarua West Sub-County Police Commander Zainab Barasa confirmed the incident, stating that investigations had been launched to trace the perpetrators.
“We have the information with us and investigations are ongoing. It is only a matter of time before we arrest the suspect,” she said.
Following the incident, Nyandarua Woman Representative Faith Gitau condemned the rising cases of child abuse in the region.
“I am deeply concerned by the increasing cases of defilement and rape of our children. Two weeks ago, children aged six and nine were defiled in Kasuku, Oljororok, and are currently receiving treatment at JM Olkalou Hospital,” she said.
“It is heartbreaking to see school-going children being killed in broad daylight. I call upon parents, guardians, neighbours, religious leaders, and the entire community to step up and protect our children,” she added.
