Residents of Chamakowa Village in Kasgunga East Location, Suba North Sub-County, Homa Bay County, are in shock following the brutal defilement and murder of a Grade Nine pupil.
The deceased, a partial orphan who had recently sat for her Grade Nine examinations, reportedly left her home at around 11 a.m. on Monday to take maize to a nearby posho mill but did not return.
Her disappearance raised concern among family members, prompting an immediate search within the village.
Kasgunga Central Sub-Location Senior Assistant Chief Elisha Odiwuor Orwa said he received a report from the girl’s mother at around 5 p.m. after attempts to trace her were unsuccessful.
During the search, some of the girl’s personal belongings were discovered near a bush along a footpath leading to a nearby shopping centre. The items included traces of maize, a shopping bag, a marvin, and a handkerchief she had been carrying when she left home.
“The search continued until about 11 p.m. when the girl’s lifeless body was discovered by her sister in a nearby bush, with visible blood stains around her private parts,” said the assistant chief.
The matter was reported to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), whose officers visited the scene to commence investigations.
The body was later taken to Mbita Sub-County Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem examination.
Police have launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
