The demolition and re-location of the old Khwisero Market will pave way for the construction of a modern Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) Market, Khwisero Member of Parliament Christopher Aseka has said.
The MP was speaking Sunday during a public participation forum at Khwisero market, ahead of the planned groundbreaking and laying of the foundation stone for the new facility.
Aseka said the relocation is a necessary step to create space for the ESP project, which is aimed at boosting trade, creating jobs and stimulating economic growth in the area.
Aseka assured traders that the process will be inclusive, transparent and consultative noting that their interests will be safeguarded throughout the transition period.
“The success of this project depends on the cooperation and wellbeing of our traders. No one will be left behind,” he said.
The MP said that the new ESP Market will feature modern stalls, improved sanitation, enhanced security and better trading conditions to attract more customers.
Traders were allowed to raise concerns and make suggestions on relocation arrangements and timelines during the forum and many welcomed the project but called for minimal disruption to their businesses during construction.
Aseka reaffirmed his commitment to continuous engagement with traders before, during and after implementation of the project.
Once completed, the Khwisero ESP Market is expected to transform local trade and strengthen Khwisero’s economic growth.
