Needy students in Gesiaga high school get bursary

Needy secondary school students at Gesiaga High School have received bursaries worth over Sh1.3 million courtesy of West Mugirango National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) kitty.

West Mugirango Constituency MP Stephen Mogaka, while presiding over the school’s education day issued cheques to 432 students noting that Gesiaga High School is a mixed-county school in his constituency with very high enrolment rates.

“Parents with bright children but struggling financially due to the current tough economic times prefer to bring their children to Gesiaga high school because it accommodates both boys and girls and has steadily recorded good grades in their KCSE examinations. I therefore feel obligated to ensure that students from vulnerable families in my constituency have access to education.”

“The chief principal of this school, Dr Zachary Ondieki has been very patient with most parents who have admitted their students to this school but I’m pleading with you parents to ensure you fulfil your promises and make prior arrangements and plans on how you will clear remaining school fee arrears to cushion our learners against unwarranted absenteeism.” MP Mogaka advised.

The legislator emphasised that education is the only equaliser in a society where our socio-economic backgrounds are varied and directly affected by the unpredictable challenges of national economic turbulence.

He challenged students to work hard and smart in their studies, remain disciplined both at home and in school to transform their lives and the lives of their families after excelling to pursue their dream careers.

Chief Principal for Gesiaga High School, Dr George Ondieki appreciated the MP’s initiative to financially support needy students admitted in his school so they can be fully in class like their schoolmates whose parents are able to clear school fees at the start of every term.

“Our MP has always given us support including supporting us to construct ultramodern classrooms for our learners to have an ample and conducive learning environment. I promise that my school, through close collaboration with teachers and other staff, will ensure our students get the best and are thoroughly prepared to attain this year’s set mean grade points of 8.5+,” Chief Principal Ondieki assured.

He requested parents to be very supportive and play their role without being compelled because they are part of the key stakeholders who must be fully involved in the success of their students.

“Take your parenting role seriously while the students are at home with you; instill discipline and acceptable behaviour in your children when they are at home because an undisciplined child will not realise his full potential in academic performance,” Dr Ondieki counselled.

Gesiaga High School registered 886 candidates in last year’s KCSE examination, out of which 608 candidates attained a mean grade of C (+) plus and above for direct entry to university with a class mean score of 7.7130, an improvement from 7.6954 in 2024 KCSE results.
