The Garissa County Public Service Board has been fully reconstituted following the swearing-in of three new members, paving the way for the board to resume full operations and strengthen public service management in the county.
The ceremony, held at the Garissa County headquarters, was presided over by Garissa Chief Magistrate Thomas Mwangi, who administered the oath of office to Abdikadir Gure Farah, Naima Hassan Farah and Muhumed Abdi Oyow.
The appointments restore the board to full membership after vacancies arose following the expiry of the terms of three former members.
Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, accompanied by Deputy Governor Abdi Dagane, congratulated the new members and urged them to begin their duties immediately, noting that residents expect a fully functional board capable of improving service delivery.
The Governor called on the board, led by Chairman Ahmed Abdirahman, to strengthen public service management, promote professionalism and ensure the county maintains an efficient and stable workforce.
He further challenged the board to support measures aimed at containing the county wage bill while ensuring recruitment is based on merit and transparency.
Jama said a professional public service is essential for maintaining continuity in government operations, even during periods of political transition.
The Governor also urged the board to undertake payroll cleansing to eliminate irregularities and ensure that only qualified personnel are employed in the county public service.
He said the exercise would enhance accountability, improve efficiency and promote quality service delivery to residents.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by County Commissioner John Cheruiyot, County Secretary Mohamud Mursal, Members of the County Assembly led by Sankuri MCA Abdirahman Mohamed, Township Sub-County Administrator Shaiya Hambe, as well as family members and friends of the newly appointed board members.
