This year’s Mashujaa Day celebrations, which are set for Eldoret City, will be co-hosted by the three North Rift neighbouring counties of Uasin Gishu, Nandi and Elgeyo Marakwet Counties with this year’s theme being; ‘Finance Sports and Security’.

“This project is being built in line with Kipchoge Stadium in Eldoret as well as Kamaring Stadium in Elgeyo Marakwet. As you know the three counties are known for producing best record-breaker marathoners,” pointed CS Murkomen, adding that the Kapsabet Stadium is at 40 per cent construction and that by Mashujaa Day it will be at 78 percent, noting that the construction is in good progress.
Murkomen further revealed that the Kapsabet Stadium will have a 340 bed capacity hostel that will go a long way in accommodating athletes and trainers from different parts, thus enhancing sporting activities, creating employment as well as increasing revenue to the County government.
“Instructively pursuant to the directive of the President, we also have hostels in Kamaring and Kapsabet Stadiums. This Kapsabet Stadium contractor for hostels is here and there will be a 340 bed capacity hostel that will enable accommodation of trainers,” revealed the CS, noting that once complete the facility will not only promote the regular site tourism but also diversify to sports and conferencing travels in the region.
CS Murkomen noted that as part of ensuring the Kapsabet Level 5 Hospital is functional, the government through the Ministry of Health and Finance is looking into equipping the new Mother and Child facility that was built by the County government in partnership with the National government.
