Tharuni School in Limuru Central Ward, Kiambu County, has received a major infrastructure facelift following the completion of renovation works on eight classrooms and the administration block.
The renovations, spearheaded by Limuru MP Kiragu Chege, are aimed at improving the learning environment and providing learners and teachers with safe, modern and conducive facilities.
The works included plastering and painting of internal and external walls, tiling of classroom floors and corridors, as well as improvements to the school roof.
Speaking during the commissioning of the renovated facilities, Chege said the improvements were part of his commitment to transforming the institution and creating a better environment for teaching and learning.
“We said we shall transform Tharuni School, and we are keeping our word. Our focus is to ensure our children and teachers have a favourable, safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning,” said Chege.
The latest intervention follows the construction of modern Junior Secondary School (JSS) classrooms at the institution in February this year.
In May 2026, the school also received 100 lockers and 100 desks to address furniture shortages and improve the learning environment.
Chege said additional infrastructure projects had been lined up for the school, noting that the interventions were intended to address the needs of both learners and teachers.
The institution has also continued to benefit from the Tap to Eat feeding programme, popularly known as DishinaKiragu, which has been embraced by the school community.
The feeding initiative is aimed at improving learners’ nutritional needs while creating a conducive environment for learning and encouraging regular school attendance.
Meanwhile, access to the institution is expected to improve following plans to upgrade the road from Mutarakwa towards Mithiga and extend the works to Tharuni School.
The planned road improvements will include tarmacking and installation of cabro paving, which are expected to reduce dust and mud within the school compound while improving accessibility for learners, teachers and visitors.
Chege said the road project would complement ongoing investments in school infrastructure and further enhance the learning environment.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to supporting education infrastructure in Limuru, saying improved learning facilities were essential in enabling learners to achieve better academic outcomes.
The ongoing interventions are expected to transform Tharuni School’s learning environment and provide learners with modern facilities that support effective teaching and learning.
