The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) North Rift Region received 270 reports of alleged corruption and unethical conduct in the past year, with 121 recommended for investigation.
EACC North Rift Regional Manager, Maj. (Rtd) Kuntai Ole Tingisha, said the reports were received from across the six counties within the region, reflecting the continued need for vigilance in the fight against corruption and promotion of ethical conduct.
“We received a total of 270 reports over the last one year, out of which 121 were recommended for investigation and assigned to the relevant departments for further action,” said Ole Tingisha.
He said the North Rift region, which comprises Uasin Gishu, Nandi, Trans Nzoia, West Pokot, Turkana and Elgeyo Marakwet counties, had received a total of 1,320 reports over the past five years.
Of the 121 reports recommended for investigation across the region, Uasin Gishu accounted for the highest number.
“Uasin Gishu recorded the highest number of reports recommended for investigation at 52, followed by Nandi with 22, Trans Nzoia 19, West Pokot 12, Elgeyo Marakwet 10 and Turkana six,” stated Tingisha.
Tingisha was speaking on Thursday in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, during a public participation and stakeholder engagement forum on the EACC’s proposed budget estimates for the 2027/2028 financial year.
The reports recommended for investigation were assigned to various EACC departments, including Forensic Investigations, Operations, Asset Tracing, and Ethics and Leadership.
According to the Commission’s scorecard, 13 reports were referred to other agencies, 16 were marked for no further action, while 103 complainants were advised. Another 17 complainants were requested to provide additional information.
The scorecard further indicates that EACC was handling major cases involving alleged embezzlement of public funds, asset tracing and unethical conduct across the six counties.
Uasin Gishu had 12 cases under investigation involving alleged embezzlement of public funds and asset tracing, with the cases valued at Sh5.45 billion. Turkana had six cases valued at Sh1.03 billion, while Trans Nzoia had eight cases valued at Sh703.26 million.
Nandi had 11 cases valued at Sh151.58 million, while Elgeyo Marakwet had four cases valued at Sh39 million and West Pokot five cases valued at Sh36 million.
The public participation forum formed part of the Commission’s stakeholder engagement on the preparation of its budget and Medium-Term Expenditure Framework for the 2027/2028–2029/2030 financial period.
