It has been seven years since 18-year-old Kenneth Keter, vanished from Matobo village in Ainamoi sub-county, Kericho and his family remains hopeful for his safe return.
In an interview with KNA, his visibly distraught mother Esther Kirui, 65, revealed that her last born son was last seen by his friends at around 8pm near Nyagacho Trading Center while staggering back home on February 2, 2018 shortly after alighting from a Toyota Probox taxi.
Mama Kirui added that her son was born with mild cerebral palsy disorder and had been on medication for four years following a series of unexplained bouts of aggression, increased alcohol consumption and hyperactivity at home.
“When my son turned 15, I noticed a change in his behavior. He became aggressive often getting into fights with friends and sometimes even carrying a machete threatening others. At one point he was admitted for three weeks at a hospital in Nakuru County for treatment.
Upon discharge, the summary stated he was to receive a monthly injection to manage his behavioral challenges. “I used to administer this to him,” said mama Kirui.
She revealed that her son had occasionally threatened to leave the family home without a trace adding following his disappearance, the family launched an intensive search that stretched across Kericho and Nakuru counties. He left his home wearing a red T-shirt, blue jeans and white sneakers.
Since Keter vanished, his family has kept monitoring social media, made countless trips to hospitals, police stations, prisons and morgues in Kericho and Nakuru counties and pursued every possible lead, no matter how small in hopes of finding him to no avail.
“I lie awake at night worried that without his medication, his aggression will return, yet I hold onto the hope that he is safe and will come home to see his three siblings,” Ms. Kirui noted.
The matter was reported at Nyagacho police station and booked under O.B. 11/06/2/2018.
