Boda boda riders in Makueni County have been urged to always wear reflector jackets in order to ensure their safety while riding motorcycles.
Addressing riders at Green Park in Wote town, Makueni Sub County on Wednesday, the chairman of National Bodaboda Safety Association Kevi Mubabi also emphasized the need for the riders to use helmets whenever they ride motorbikes.
“Wear your reflector jackets for easier identification by motorists. This will make you look professional and avert accidents on our roads,” said Mubabi, while addressing the riders on Wednesday.
During the meeting, the national chairman also warned the riders against taking law into their hands by burning vehicles and other people’s property whenever there was an issue or a disagreement, saying this was giving the boda boda sector a bad name.
Consequently. he challenged them to be disciplined and allow the law of the land to prevail whenever there is a problem with motorists on the roads.
“Stop burning vehicles whenever your motorbike collides with a vehicle. Burning other vehicles will endanger your lives too. Be orderly and allow the law to take its course,” warned Mubabi.
He also encouraged the riders to purchase the electric motorbikes saying they are environmentally friendly, besides being cheap to maintain and pocket friendly.
On Social Health Authority (SHA), he asked them to register as members to get benefits accruing from the insurance cover in the event, they or their dependents fall sick.
He also encouraged the boda boda riders to take advantage of the government affordable housing by registering so they can benefit from the same.
