Bursary programme eases education burden for Kabete families

Hundreds of learners from Uthiru, Gitaru, Muguga, and Nyathuna wards in Kabete municipality have received bursary cheques to support their education, easing the financial burden on families and promoting equal access to schooling.

The bursaries, issued during a public event in Kabete, brought together students, parents, and local leaders who hailed the initiative as a lifeline for many households grappling with the rising cost of education.

Education remains at the heart of our development agenda. No child in Kiambu should have to miss school because of financial challenges and this bursary programme is our way of ensuring that every learner has the opportunity to pursue their dreams,” said governor Dr. Kimani Wamatangi.

According to the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Gender, Culture and Social Services, Dr Mercy Njagi, the bursary programme will benefit hundreds of families across the municipality.

“This initiative reflects the county government’s dedication to empowering young people and investing in the future of Kiambu,” she said.

Members of County Assembly (MCAs) from the region also praised the programme, stressing its direct impact on school attendance and performance.

The Uthiru ward representative, Erick Warugu, noted that many families faced financial challenges that often put their children at risk of dropping out.

“This support will keep our children in school and give them hope,” he said.

At the same time,  Gitaru ward representative  Jane Thogori urged beneficiaries to remain focused on their studies, reminding them that education is the gateway to opportunity.

Students and parents expressed heartfelt gratitude for the kind gesture, with Mary Wanjiku, a student from Gitaru ward, saying the  bursary came at a critical time for her family.

“My parents were worried about paying my fees. This support will allow me to continue with my studies without disruption,” she said.

The bursary programme is part of Kiambu’s broader education agenda, aimed at ensuring equity in access to learning opportunities.

County officials indicated that more wards will benefit in the coming months as the initiative expands.

With the latest round of bursary allocations, hundreds of learners in Kabete municipality are now better positioned to complete their education, paving the way for improved livelihoods and stronger community development.
