Residents of Chuka South Sub-County have renewed calls for increased investment in water infrastructure, agricultural value addition and stronger cooperative systems as key drivers of economic growth in the area.
The appeal was made during a Consolata Parish celebration held at Mpukoni in Magumoni, where leaders and residents gathered for prayers.
Speaking at the event, Maara Member of Parliament Kareke Mbiuki outlined water development, agro-processing and cooperative strengthening as key priorities guiding his leadership.
He said these projects aimed to improve livelihoods across the region.
The MP said the initiatives form part of his development agenda focused on enhancing agricultural productivity and expanding income opportunities for farmers.
Mbiuki emphasized water development as a key pillar, noting the need for dams and water harvesting projects to support household use and agricultural production.
He also underscored the importance of value addition in agriculture, particularly in milk and green grams, saying farmers stand to earn better returns when produce is processed instead of being sold in raw form.
The MP further called for enhanced collaboration between farmers, cooperatives and the private sector, saying stronger cooperative structures would improve access to markets and inputs while boosting production efficiency.
He noted that plans to support the establishment of milk processing facilities remain central to strengthening the dairy value chain and creating employment opportunities for local residents.
During the same event, Consolata Parish Priest Fr. Silas Mwiti urged parents to take a leading role in raising children with strong moral values, saying the family remains the foundation of a disciplined society.
He raised concern over rising cases of indiscipline among young people, calling for closer parental guidance and mentorship.
Fr. Mwiti also highlighted the importance of livestock farming in the region, noting that many households depended on dairy and pig farming for their livelihoods.
