Communities in Loima Sub-County have made a strong case for increased investment in clean water, early childhood development (ECD), and agriculture during the just-concluded public participation on Turkana County’s 2025/2026 budget proposals.
While presenting her views, Mary Areng, a representative from a women’s group, urged county leaders to give urgent attention to ECDE learners.
“Investing in our children’s early education is crucial for their future. We want to see real commitment in this budget toward ECDE centers, trained teachers, and learning materials,” she said, calling for direct funding to support early learning at the grassroots.
Additionally, poor access to clean water emerged as a cross cutting need across all wards.
Elder John Lobei from Lobei/Kotaruk ward said water shortages continued to threaten livelihoods and dignity.
“We cannot talk about health and development when our people still struggle to find clean water. Let this budget be the one that finally changes that,” he urged.
From Lorugum, Apostle Laurence Oso emphasized the importance of aligning budget priorities with sustainable community growth.
“Education and agricultural support are not just projects; they are pillars of self-reliance. With the youth empowered and our food systems supported, we can lift ourselves out of poverty,” he said.
Participants from various sectors—including women, elders, youth, education, and health—expressed optimism that this year’s budget process would not only reflect their voices but translate them into tangible service delivery.
