Turkana Leaders hail appointment of Munyes

Leaders in Turkana County have congratulated former Cabinet Secretary John Munyes on his appointment as the Special Peace Envoy for the Ateker region.

Led by Beatrice Askul, the Cabinet Secretary for East African Community, ASALs, and Regional Development, the leaders expressed their support for President William Ruto’s initiative to promote peaceful coexistence and socio-cultural integration among the Karamojong, Jie, Turkana, Toposa, Nyangatom, Teso, and Lang’o communities in the border areas of Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia.

Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai said, “On behalf of the people of Turkana, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Hon. John Munyes Kiyonga on his well-deserved appointment as the Special Peace Envoy for the Ateker region,”.

He added that Munyes’ deep understanding of the region’s shared heritage, culture, and aspirations positions him perfectly to champion peace, unity, and development across the borders.

“We are confident that his leadership will unlock tremendous peace dividends, fostering stability, economic growth, and stronger ties among our communities,” added the Governor.

The leaders also lauded President Ruto for recognizing Hon. Munyes’ capabilities and entrusting him with such a critical role, saying the appointment reflects the national government’s commitment to sustainable peace and regional integration.

“May God guide Munyes as he takes up this noble responsibility, and may the Ateker region flourish in unity and prosperity,” concluded Governor Lomorukai.

Munyes has previously served as Member of Parliament for Turkana North, Minister for Special Programmes, Senator for Turkana County, and Cabinet Secretary for Petroleum and Mining.
