Construction of the 10,000-seater Kipchamba Stadium in Bomet County within Nyangores Ward, Chepalungu Sub-County, is set to officially commence this week on Friday, in a development that will avail the much needed facility to area residents.
Defence Principal Secretary Patrick Mariru confirmed the commencement date during a site visit at the proposed stadium site on Wednesday, where he was hosted by County Commissioner Caroline Nzwili, CECM for Education, Vocational Training, Youths and Sports Mr. Philip Maritim, and Ag. Chief Officer Dr. Nelson Tore.
The proposed Sh950 million modern facility in the outskirts of Bomet town will feature changing rooms, a canopy, sports equipment and a modern green football pitch, providing an improved platform for sports development and talent nurturing.
The County Government of Bomet acquired the land for the project and is facilitating the re-routing of the access road to Kapmenwo Village following the fencing of the stadium site.
County officials intimated that the County Government is also working to ensure water connectivity and other amenities to the vicinity of the proposed facility.
The site visit was attended by members of the County Security Team, Director of Youths and Sports Vincent Langat, officials from the Department of Lands, and other partners and stakeholders.
The project is expected to significantly enhance sports infrastructure and create greater opportunities for talent development across the county, besides being home to local KPL side APS Bomet FC.
Earlier, Governor Barchok disclosed that the ultra-modern stadium being implemented by national government through the Department of Defence would consist of a CAF standard football pitch and a tartan laced athletic track, adding that the available extra land around the stadium will be fenced and secured for the future construction of an indoor volleyball and basketball arena and a warming up running track.
Construction works at the stadium project site is expected to be complete in February 2027 according to the initial work plan.
However, PS Mariru said that the government was accelerating the implementation of the project, in consultation with the contractor to have more flexible working hours, including a day-and-night work schedule, to ensure that construction progresses as planned and the facility is completed by December this year as instructed by President William Samoei Ruto.
